NI chairs newly formed UK & Ireland European Hygienic Engineering and Design Group

14 Jan 2015

In October, the UK & Ireland section of the European Hygienic Engineering and Design Group (EHEDG) was launched and is now chaired by the Nickel Institute because of its status as a knowledgeable and commercially-neutral organisation. Stainless steels are materials of choice for equipment intended for the processing, transportation and storage of food. For over 15 years, the Nickel Institute has actively supported EHEDG by offering technical advice on the selection, preparation and use of stainless steels.

In mid-November Eric Partington, European Consultant to the Nickel Institute chaired its first Committee Meeting and the section is now structured to answer technical enquiries, to encourage membership of EHEDG,  organise seminars and training courses, and to work with Universities to introduce hygienic design and engineering onto the curricula of further education courses in the UK and Ireland.  The enthusiasm with which industry and academia responded to this announcement suggests that EHEDG UK & Ireland was long overdue.
