Stainless Bar Sales

The SBS-Stainless Bar Sales division of FCL will be marketing a full range of Plain, Ribbed, Hexagon and Square High Performance Bars. The SBS range will meet the new specifications being introduced in the revised BS6744:2001 - ‘Stainless steel bars for the reinforcement of and use in concrete’.

The production facilities at our Send Service Centre offers full manufacturing support including; Cropping, Sawing, Bending to BS8666:2000 and Threading. Coupling of bars utilises the SSR 550 system. The standard grades of material available are; 1.4436 (316S33) 1.4429 (High Proof), 1.4301 (304S31) and 1.4462 (Duplex). SBS can also supply the high specification grades 1.4529 Super Austenitic and 1.4501 Super Duplex.

Most items will be available in two mechanical property grades with a minimum 0.2% Proof Stress of 500 N/mm2 and 650 N/mm2 respectively. Plain bars up to 75Ø mm can be supplied.

A comprehensive range of standard size welded mesh and welded fabric mesh for use in the construction or repair of concrete structures is available. Materials to BS1554 and BS6744:2001 are used in manufacture.

BS6744 - Specification Update: BS6744: 2001 +A2: 2009 has been revised to include the new Lean Duplex grades of stainless steel materials developed over the past 15 years or so.

These new grades when compared to the traditional Austenitic grades offer advantages when developed into bars in reinforcement or construction and use in cement with a lower Nickel and Molybdenham content, this new family of stainless steels enable the product to be produced with the following advantages:

• High corrosion resistance in areas of higher chloride concentration.

• Higher strength to meet with the 500 & 650 grades detailed in BS6744: 2001.

• More stable price, relevant to larger long-term contracts.

The new specifications 1.4632/1.4162 have been included in BS6744: 2001 +A2: 2009. These specifications can replace the existing Nickel rich Austenitic grades with a more stable price structure.
