  1. Ambient temperature mechanical properties of cold worked wire to EN 10088-3

EN 10088-3 is the European Standard for stainless steel long products. It includes a provision for wire in the cold worked condition. Although this is not strictly for spring wire (which is EN 10270-3), the properties shown in Table 18 are such that springs could be made from material in this condition

  2. BSEN 10204 test certificates for stainless steel products

Test certificate types 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 3.1, 3.1B, 3.1A, 3.1C and 3.2 to the 1991 and 2004 editions of BSEN 10204 are described. The 2004 edition has simplified the range of certificate types to only include types 2.1, 2.2, 3.1 and 3.2. Type 3.1 replaces 3.1B and type 3.2 replaces 3.1A, 3.1C and 3.2 of the previous 1991 edition. The 1991 version of EN 10204 was based on the original German DIN 50049.

  3. Chemical composition of stainless steel flat products for pressure purposes to BS EN 10028-7

BS EN 10028-7 is the material standard for stainless steel sheet, plate and strip for pressure purposes. The current edition was published in December 2007. The grades are mostly a subset of the grades covered in BS EN 10088-2 for general purposes. There are also a number of creep resisting steels from BS EN 10302.  The chemical composition of stainless steel grades covered in the this standard are:

    Ferritic 1.4003 1.4516 1.4520 1.4510 1.4513 1.4521 1.4526 1.4509

    Martensitic 1.4313 1.4418

    Austenitic 1.4318 1.4307 1.4306 1.4315 1.4311 1.4301 1.4541 1.4550 1.4335 1.4404 1.4406 1.4401 1.4466 1.4571 1.4580 1.4432 1.4429 1.4436 1.4435 1.4434 1.4438 1.4439 1.4563 1.4539 1.4537 1.4547  1.4529

    Duplex 1.4362 1.4462 1.4507 1.4410 1.4501

    Creep Resisting 1.4910 1.4941 1.4948 1.4950 1.4951 1.4958 1.4959 1.4961

  4. European EN Standard Grade Summary

A summary of the EN standards for stainless steel products showing which grades appear in which standards.

  5. European Stainless Steel Standards and the Pressure Equipment and Construction Products Directives

European standards EN10028-7 EN10272 EN10269 EN 10222-5 EN 10213-2 EN 10213-4 are harmonised in the PED 97/23/EC for pressure equipment. Requirements on procurement, fabrication and inspection are outlined. Approved producers may use the CE mark on their products. The issues of TUV approval for pressure equipment to German designs is also discussed.

  6. European Standardisation

The background to the publication of EN10088 parts 1, 2 and 3 and EN10095 is described. Part 1 covers chemical compositions and some physical properties of the European stainless steel grades. Part 2 covers flat products ie sheets and plates, with their mechanical properties and replaces BS1449 part 2 1983. Part 3 covers long products ie bars and sections and replaces BS970 part 1. EN10095 covers Heat Resisting Steels and Nickel Alloys in all product forms. These only cover ?general engineering? purposes. Pressure purposes are covered by EN10028 part 7 (flat products) and EN 10272 (long products). A summary table of standards is shown, which includes the separate dimensional tolerance standards

  7. European Standards - Referenced Standards for Stainless Steel Products

The number of European standards relating to stainless steel grades, mechanical properties and tolerances can be quite complex. This article attempts to summarise the structure of the existing standards in a way that enables you to find which standard you are looking for.

  8. Matrices of European (EN) & ISO Standards for Stainless Steels

EN standards covering materials, designations, inspection and dimensions (tolerances), testing and certification are shown in a single table. There is a similar table for international ISO standards.

  9. Product Analysis Tolerances for Steels to EN 10088-2 and EN 10088-3

In EN 10088-2 and EN 10088-3 the chemical composition ranges are defined for the cast analysis. Any subsequent product analysis may deviate from these ranges by the amounts specified in this article

  10. Specifiers Guide to the New EN Standards for Stainless Steel Long Products

This BSSA Special Report firstly clarifies the definitions of long products, drawn from BS EN 10079, including rod, wire, hot rolled bars, hot forged bars and bright products including drawn, turned and ground bar. The development of standards from BS 970 to BS EN 10088-3 is traced for long products. Related standards for pressure purposes, BS EN 10272, heat-resisting steels BS EN 10095 and creep resisting steel BS EN 10302 are also relevant to long products. The current and developing standards for long product tolerances including pr EN 10060, EN 10278 and ISO 286 parts 1 and 2 and certification to BS EN 10204 are also covered. Tables of relate EN and BS grades and tolerance ranges to pr EN 10060 and ISO 286-2, k14, k12, h10 and h9 are also shown.
