Chemical compositions of stainless steels to BS EN 10297-2

Introduction

BS EN 10297-2 is the material standard for stainless and heat-resisting steels for seamless tubes for mechanical and general engineering (ie not pressure) purposes. This new standard was first published in December 2005. It does not replace any previous British Standards, unlike the counterpart welded tube standard BSEN 10296-2, which replaced BS 6323-8:1982.
Included in the standard are chemical compositions, delivery conditions, ambient temperature mechanical properties, some additional optional tests (leak testing, hydrostatic testing and a range of non-destructive test options including eddy current and ultrasonic test methods) and some dimensional and tolerance requirements.
Ferritic (4), one martensitic (1.4006), austenitic (22), austenitic-ferritic (duplex) (8) stainless steels and one ferritic (1.4749) and austenitic (6) heat resisting grades are included in the range of grades specified in this standard. Only the chemical composition of the stainless steels in the standard are listed in this article.
