The latest school in the Highlands to feature Aperam UGITOP® stainless steel roofing and cladding system is Milton of Leys Primary School, Inverness.

The design by Keppies Architects and EBBA Consultants (who provided guidance of sustainability and BREEAM), included 6,000m2 of stainless steel on façades and roofs. It achieved a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating at 74% and as one of the Highland Schools PPP2 primary schools, formed part of a ten school project. UGITOP was specified for its highly durable matt appearance that provides low reflectivity and is lightweight at less than 4 kg/m². Suited to diverse architectural styles it offers excellent corrosion resistance, high mechanical strength, low coefficient of expansion and is fully recyclable.

The timescale for completion was exceptionally tight in order to enable the school to be operational for the start of the 2011/12 school year. It has been awarded the best new building at the Highlands and Islands Architecture and Design Awards.
